Additional Information
About Torrance Barrens – Torrance Barrens is a spectacular conservation area just outside the town of Gravenhurst and a two hour drive from the city of Toronto. Torrance Barrens is filled with low ridges of bedrock, separated by wetlands, ponds and peat-hollows. The combination of low vegetation, flat topography and lack of light pollution make Torrance Barrens a perfect place for viewing the night skies and, in 1999, the Ontario government officially designated the area as a “Dark-Sky Preserve.” On a clear night you can see the Andromeda Galaxy, the rings of Saturn and even, if you’re really lucky, the Northern Lights!
Safety Information
All Dark Sky programs are led by experienced outdoor guides with appropriate first aid training and certification. Each guide also brings his/her own unique dark-sky knowledge whether it's astronomy, nighttime photography or other related areas!
